Alcino Soutinho

Alcino Soutinho (1930-2013)

The exhibition tribute to my father, Alcino Soutinho, which the XVIII Biennial of Cerveira presents, has as main theme “his intervention in the ex-libris of the Village of Cerveira, thus calling the attention of the competent authorities to the future of the Castle, where the Pousada D. Dinis’ Inn was once located, and which deserved today a more objective integration within the fates of this Village of the Arts”. Therefore, it is proposed an exhibition where the project of the Pousada/Inn is presented, in a selection of his most insightful drawings, completemented with photos of that period, to better illustrate the intervention, since throughout its existence it has known changes that mislead the original project, in terms of architecture and decor.

Still aiming at better understanding the concept underlying the adaptation of the Citadel and its ancient cluster in the Pousada-Inn, photographs of 1971, before the intervention, and of the lifting, also dating from the same year, are shown.

At the same time, pieces of design are exhibited, highlighting a small number of furniture, designed specifically for the Pousada-Inn that, miraculously, survived.
